How to Balance a Camera Gimbal Correctly
A complete 3-axis balancing walkthrough for the FeiyuTech SCORP Mini 3 Pro — pitch, roll, and pan, explained step by step so your footage stays smooth from the very first power-on.
Before you power on Why gimbal balancing comes first
A camera gimbal's motors are built to make tiny, constant corrections — not to fight gravity. If your camera's weight isn't centered on all three axes when the motors engage, they have to work overtime just to hold position.
Every FeiyuTech 3-axis gimbal follows the same principle:
always install your camera, balance all three axes, and release the motor locks before normal operation.
Powering on an unbalanced setup may cause vibration, motor protection, or sleep mode.
Step 0 Get set up before you touch the axes
Balancing is much easier when your camera is genuinely ready to shoot.
- ✓ Charge the SCORP Mini 3 Pro fully before first use.
- ✓ Unlock all three motor locks before balancing.
- ✓ Install lens, battery, memory card and accessories before mounting.
- ✓ Mount camera securely on the quick-release plate.
- ✓ Keep the gimbal powered off during balancing.
The 3-axis balancing sequence Pitch, roll, then pan
Balance the axes in this order — each one gives you a stable base for the next. For every axis, unlock only the axis you're adjusting, lock the other two, then slide the arm until gravity stops pulling the camera in one direction.
01 · Pitch Axis Balance
1a — Vertical balance
- Unlock the pitch motor lock and keep the other two axes locked.
- Point the camera lens straight up.
- Slide the pitch arm until the lens stays in position without falling.
- Lock the slide back into place.
1b — Front-to-back balance
- Level the camera so the lens points straight forward.
- Move the camera forward or backward until it remains level.
- Lock the camera position securely.
02 · Roll Axis Balance
- Unlock the roll motor lock only, keeping the other axes locked.
- Observe which direction the camera tilts.
- Slide the roll arm opposite the tilt direction until it stays level.
- Lock the roll arm securely.
03 · Pan (Yaw) Axis Balance
- Unlock the pan motor lock only while keeping the other two axes locked.
- Tilt the gimbal slightly and check which direction the camera swings.
- Move the pan arm opposite the swing direction.
- Lock the pan arm after the camera remains stable.
Last step Powering on after balancing
Once all three axes hold steady on their own, you're ready to power up.
- Make sure all three motor locks are fully released before powering on.
- Press and hold the power button until the confirmation tone starts.
- Adjust motor strength settings after powering on if you change your camera or lens setup.

Why does my gimbal shake after turning it on?
This usually means one or more axes were not balanced before the motors engaged. Power off the gimbal and repeat the pitch, roll, and pan balancing process.
Do I need to rebalance every time?
You only need to rebalance when changing your camera body, lens, or accessories. The same camera setup can keep its balance between sessions.
How long does balancing take?
After learning the process, balancing the SCORP Mini 3 Pro usually takes around 3–5 minutes.
What happens if I skip balancing?
